Passenger attacks flight attendant of Trans Air
PHILIPSBURG--A man said to be of Canadian nationality was arrested and handed over to local authorities after he physically attacked a female Trans Air flight attendant on Saturday's flight, about 60 miles from St. Maarten.
According to Chief Prosecutor Cor Merx, the flight attendant of Trans Air flight 516 was apparently adjusting some overhead luggage near the man's seat when he jumped up aggressively and punched her in the stomach.
When the plane landed at the Princess Juliana International Airport, the police, who had been earlier informed, were waiting to arrest the man. He was taken to the Philipsburg police station, while the victim was taken for a medical checkup.
Merx said that although an official complaint had been filed with the detectives by the flight attendant, the Canadian man could not be taken to court here on the island, because the incident had taken place in international airspace.
However, Merx said a police report had been made up and sent to authorities in Canada. The man was deported on Sunday afternoon by officers of the immigration department.
