We all know the Red Cross ...an organisation beeing erected in the beginning of the 20th century in Switzerland.

When at the time they were looking for a flag and logo, as it all happened in Switzerland and the countries neutrality, they chose the reverse of the Swiss National flag (white cross on red background).The Red Cross is a red cross on a white background.

BTW the cross is semetric in all senses. And thus has nothing to do with the religious christians cross which is asymetric.

In the islam world they chose the Crescent as their counterpart, not knowing that the Red Cross has nothing to do with is and is a mere Loga as for example the Star for Mercedes.

I have never understood how such a misunderstanding is so widely spread worldwide

Right but if their aim is the same, I wouldn't care if it is a cross or a crescent ...
